Hybrid CPU–GPU Cutting Simulation Using Position-Based Dynamics and Internal Shape-Preserving Constraints in Unity 3D

Hybrid CPU–GPU Cutting Simulation Using Position-Based Dynamics and Internal Shape-Preserving Constraints in Unity 3D

Electronics, 15(17), 3796 · (SCIE) · 2026.08Link

Lyudmila Khan, Yoo-Joo Choi, Min Hong

  • Developed a real-time cutting simulation using PBD and ISPCs in Unity 3D. Applied hybrid CPU–GPU processing to accelerate cutting and deformation.
  • Achieved real-time performance in 7 of 8 tested 3D models. Improved frame rates by up to 677% compared to previous methods. Maintained volume preservation within 0.4% for simple models.
  • Improved the efficiency and stability of real-time cutting simulations. Demonstrated potential applications in VR/AR surgical training and soft-tissue simulation.
